Punk vs Goth vs Grunge vs Y2K: What's the Difference?

What's the difference between punk, goth, grunge and Y2K? Punk is loud and DIY: studs, spikes, tartan, leather and safety pins. Goth is dark and romantic: black, lace, mesh, crosses and silver. Grunge is worn-in and relaxed: flannel, faded band tees, ripped denim and boots. Y2K is shiny early-2000s nostalgia: low-rise jeans, baby tees, rhinestones and tinted sunglasses. Most streetwear today mixes two or more of them.

How to mix the styles

Most of what we stock sits between these labels, and that's the fun part.

  1. Punk + Y2K: a rhinestone baby tee with a studded belt and a wallet chain.
  2. Goth + grunge: a lace top under an oversized flannel with baggy jeans and boots.
  3. Y2K + goth: a mini skirt and baby tee in black, with a cross choker and rimless sunglasses.
  4. Punk + grunge: distressed jeans, a faded band-style tee and a heavy chain.

A simple rule: pick one style for the clothes and borrow accessories from another.
